Pet Portraits

Animals make great illustration subjects. Each breed
or species has their very own and distinct facial feature, which makes them a joy to recreate. The patterns on the fur or the shape of their heads lend themselves to be rendered in a very graphic style. From a very early age I have been either drawing or reading and watching natural history documentaries. Seems that this is the perfect fit for both.

People Portraits

When I started Three Black Dots it was all about dogs and cats.  Occasionally however, I have been lured away from my furry friends and commissioned to illustrate their owners instead. Rather than caricatures, I treat my human portraits in just the same way as the four legged ones. Every face has its own symmetry and like animals we are easily recognisable by the shape of our heads, features, hair etc.  It's these facial characteristics that I hone into and hopefully make the subject smile when they see the finished illustration.

Objects of Desire

I love gadgets but most of all I love iconic design. Wither it is a camera, a toy or even a household appliance, one thing would always draw me into its orbit; It had to be unique. Growing up in the 70's and 80's I was lucky enough to witness firsthand the evolution of cool gadgets. It is with this passion for great product design I approach all my illustrations. Even if it does risk me showing my age.
